01 · Haveli & Setting

What This Place Actually Is

A family-run guest house inside a 500-year-old sandstone haveli, inside a fort that people still live in.

The Building

Sandstone, Roughly 500 Years Old

The haveli is cut from the same yellow quartzite as the fort itself. Walls a half-metre thick. Stone niches where oil lamps once sat. Carved jharokha brackets projecting over the lane below. No plaster veneer — the original masonry is exposed throughout.

The Setting

A Living Fort, Not a Museum

About 4,000 people still live inside Jaisalmer Fort — shopkeepers, priests, families, and a handful of guesthouses. Ours is a two-minute walk from the Jain Temple complex and the Gopa Chowk main gate. Vehicles stop at the gate; the fort interior is pedestrian.

The Rooms

Six Rooms, Each Distinct

No two rooms are identical. One has a low stone window seat overlooking the lane. Another opens onto a narrow stone balcony facing west — good for the sunset. All have attached bathrooms with hot water, a ceiling fan, and a bed with clean cotton linen.

The Terrace

Rooftop Kitchen, Open Morning and Evening

The rooftop looks across the fort ramparts to the old city and the desert fringe beyond. Breakfast runs from 7 to 10. Evening meals are cooked to order — Rajasthani thali, dal bati, ker sangri, fresh roti. Masala chai is available all day.

05 · Honest Excursion Advice

Beyond the Fort Walls

The Thar Desert is 40 km from here. We do not run a commercial mass-tourism camp; we help our guests experience the real desert with trusted local drivers and quiet camel routes.

Sunset Excursion · 4–5 Hours

Quiet Desert Camel Trek (Khuri Dunes)

Most travelers get sent to Sam Sand Dunes, where hundreds of commercial camps play loud music and run rows of noisy quad bikes. Instead, we arrange quiet afternoon camel treks in smaller dunes near Khuri or peaceful desert edges where you hear only the wind and see the open Thar horizon.

Includes: Camel riding, sunset tea on the dunes, return taxi from fort.

Jeep Excursion: Kuldhara Ghost Village & Khaba Fort

Explore the 13th-century abandoned village of Kuldhara, mysteriously deserted overnight by the Paliwal Brahmins over 200 years ago. Continue to the rugged stone ramparts of Khaba Fort overlooking ancient fossil beds and desert settlements.

Includes: Private jeep, local driver who knows the terrain, entry stops.
